In the 1970’s, when I began to take the game of golf much more serious, I played with MacGregor Tommy Armour Super Eye-O-Matic Persimmon Woods and First Flight Standard Irons. To me, there wasn’t a club that fit my game better than these. I played the MacGregor’s into 1991 when the metal head woods forced the wooded heads out of the business because of their increased distances. I finally wore out my First Flight irons and at the time, the only club that looked and performed as well were Mizuno blades. Since that time in the 1990’s, I have never had a set of any other irons in my bag for any length of time. Mizuno was the #1 on the PGA Tour for a long time, until other manufacturers bought out players with big-money endorsement contracts that some players could not resist. Tiger Woods played with Mizuno MP-14’s through college, won 3 US Amateur tournaments and a few early PGA Tour events before he was financially forced to change companies. However, if you were to look in his bag, the manufacturer specially designed Tiger’s clubs to look as close to the MP-14’s as they legally could. The new Mizuno line of golf clubs are better and more diverse than ever before. You, as a golfer, owe to yourself to get custom fit for a set of Mizuno irons, woods, wedges and putters. Find your custom fitter on the Mizuno website.
In the mid-1990’s, I chose to try a golf ball called Precept Tour Edition. Nick Price and Nick Faldo were playing this ball and I thought, why not? WOW! This golf ball was amazing, and in my opinion, performed better than any other ball on the market at the time. In later years the name Precept became Bridgestone and the golf ball under that name began to make some ground in the world golf ball market. Couples, Kuchar, Snedeker and a few others were playing it. When Nike chose to get out of the golf equipment company guess who else came on board playing the Bridgestone ball? Yes sir, Tiger Woods! My golf team used the Bridgestone ball exclusively for 20 years. In the wind, I promise you that there is not another ball in the industry that outperforms the Bridgestone ball. I am so proud to continue endorsing the Bridgestone golf ball.
In the business of golf rangefinders and personal launch monitors, Bushnell Golf is #1 in their industry. They are the company which all competitors try to measure up to, but seem to be a year or two behind. There is nothing with the name Bushnell Golf that is second-rate at all. Golf pros and avid golfers are finding the Bushnell Launch Pro as the personal launch monitor of choice. Whether using the Launch Pro simply for the numbers to improve your golf game, or using it for your home golf simulator, you will be very pleased with the Launch Pro.
The Divots line of apparel is as diverse as any golf apparel company in the business. Most country club private label shirts and jackets are made by the good folks at Divots. My golf team proudly wore the Divots shirts and outerwear for a few years. I was proud when I could offer a jacket or shirt at my fundraising golf tournaments to each of the participants.
I cannot say anything about Byron Nelson that has not already been said. One of the greatest golfers of all times. The Byron Nelson apparel line has the dedication in offering the same quality in their apparel as what Byron expected of himself, whenever he played. An exceptional quality golf line.
In the back pocket of nearly every PGA and LPGA player you will spot a leather yardage book cover and most of these were hand-made by Fairway Leathers. One of the best decisions I made in team equipment as a college golf coach was to supply my golf team with Fairway Leather yardage books. The company is not limited to yardage books but nearly any conceivable leather product that you can imagine can be custom made by Fairway Leathers. Check out their website and email them for pricing. The products will be something you will take pride in either owning or offering as a gift in any event you may host.
All golfers are seeking a golf shoe that is comfortable and eye-appealing. However, another factor that should not be overlooked is the performance of the golf shoe. I partially attribute our last NJCAA National Championship Team victory to the Puma golf shoes that my players wore in 2019. With a great fit and stability characteristics that are built into these shoes, my players were less fatigued than most of the other teams competing down the stretch. Puma puts a lot of science into the designs of their golf shoes and folks they look and feel great too!
It’s just too bad that every restaurant can’t make chicken like Guthrie’s. Whether it’s after church, before a round of golf or for dinner, you can’t beat the flavor and tenderness of Guthrie’s chicken.
If you are considering a home golf practice net in your yard, garage or man-cave, don’t scrimp – just buy The Net Return. Yes, they have competition, but they do not have an equal. I brought 5 into my indoor practice facility, “The Golfhouse” at CACC, while coaching. These nets have held up for over 14 years of heavy use. Should you decide to take it on vacation or another location, it breaks down and sets up again in minutes. The Net Return - the best in the business!
There are a large number of cap companies in the golf industry, but there are none that produce a better cap at a better price with such beautiful embroidery work as Ahead. Ahead headwear has been endorsed for years by Arnold Palmer and Jack Nicklaus. I couldn’t be prouder to endorse Ahead myself. For over 22 years, the only cap that my golf team players have worn at practice and in competition has been Ahead.
